Email To My Social Security Accounts – 1099 Reminder

Email messages are occasionally sent to groups of people who have created their personal my Social Security account. These emails provide general information only, do not contain any personal information about you and do not request any personal information from you.

Sometimes people receiving these emails contact Social Security to verify that the message is real.

Starting late last week and continuing over the next few days, one of these emails is being sent to remind people that they can obtain an instant replacement of the SSA-1099 through their my Social Security account.

Here is the content of this real Social Security email.

As a my Social Security account holder, you can use Social Security’s online services at your convenience. Since you received Social Security benefits in 2015, we can help you get the information you need to file your tax returns. You can use your online account to get an instant replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S form.

 It’s quick and easy…

 Log in to your account at www.socialsecurity.gov/signin.

 If you don’t remember your user name or password, you can select “Forgot Username,” “Forgot Password,” or both. After you answer questions to verify your identity, you’ll be all set.

 Select the “Replacement Documents” tab and get the forms you need.
